Directions to RedBuck

Here are complete directions from the San Francisco Bay Area to the beautiful RedBuck Retreat,
high atop majestic Mount Bullion in Mariposa, California.

From the North Bay Area

• Take 880 or 680 to 580 East
• Continue on 580 by "exiting" where 580 and 205 split (about 19 miles beyond 680) and follow signs for Fresno and Los Angeles
• After about 11 miles exit 580 at Route 132 (Yosemite and Modesto)
• Stay on Route 132 for about 22 miles to Route 99 South in Modesto (follow signs along frontage road for Merced)
• Take 99 South about 38 miles to Merced and exit Route 140 East (follow signs for Mariposa/Yosemite)
• Follow 140 East all the way to Mariposa

From the South Bay Area

• Take 101 South to Gilroy
• Exit 152 East (Pacheco Pass past Casa de Fruita and Los Banos)
• Exit 59 North to Merced
• In Merced, take 99 South for one exit (less than one-half mile) to 140 East (follow signs for Mariposa/Yosemite)
• Follow 140 East all the way to Mariposa

From Downtown Mariposa

• Continue on Route 140 through town to 49 North (left turn)
• Go approximately 3.6 miles and turn right at the entrance to the Mt. Bullion CalFIRE Camp (If you get to the airport, you missed the turn!)
• Follow the road up the hill (behind/past the airport) to the crest (approximately 3.1 miles) where the pavement curves left
• At the crest of the paved road continue straight onto a gravel road (There are signs for "Mt Bullion Ridge Road" and "Private Road - No Outlet". If you start going downhill on the paved road, you missed the turn!)
• NOTE: You will be on the gravel road for about 3 miles. It is a fairly smooth road, but please drive slowly (about 15-20 MPH) to keep it in good shape, and to avoid generating too much dust and noise for the neighbors.
• After about 1.7 miles and lots of curves you will come to a "Y"--go to the LEFT and begin going downhill
• After about 0.3 miles there is another "Y"--go to the RIGHT around the curve
• Then go immediately through a silver gate (normally left open, but please close it behind you if you find it closed)--and just keep going
• Go through the property with the stables and the house that burned during the Telegraph Fire (please be courteous and drive slowly)
• Go through a yellow gate (also normally left open, but please close it behind you if you find it closed)
• Go another 500 yards and turn right onto the driveway marked 5851--you're almost there
• Follow the driveway three-eighths of a mile (through the open gate) and you're there--finally!!!

Please drive safely, especially on the two-lane highways, allowing about 3½ hours to drive the total of 160 miles.
